Gnumeric install problem
When I try to install gnumeric from the app catalogue I get "installation failed".
When I subsequently tried from xterm I got: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done gnumeric is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 18 not upgraded. 1 not fully installed or removed. Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B of additional disk space will be used. /bin/sh: /usr/sbin/dpkg-preconfigure: not found Setting up gnumeric (1.7.0-1indt3) ... dpkg: error processing gnumeric (--configure): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: gnumeric E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Any ideas? |
Are you trying a fresh install or an upgrade?
for an update you first have to remove the old installation. If you are trying a fresh install, then i dont know, sorry. |
Fresh install...
The odd thing is that it appears to have at least partially installed. I can get gnumeric up by trying "gnumeric" in xterm, but it doesn't display on the applications menu or show in the taskbar when running. |
I had some problems, made it working, don't know exactly what I did, but here it's approximately:
get gnumeric from the repository, not from a download. Install "gnumeric extensions" first. |
I have a similar problem.
Neither the gnumeric nor the addons will install properly. Trying to apt-get install them on the command line reveals that there are some unsatisfied dependencies. I had no problem installing gnumeric in the past. Maybe I am missing some vital repo that is different from the one that gnumeric is included in. Just for the record, I have exactly the same problem...I have been meaning to post the same comment/question

My blood pressure gets higher when I still and now try to install Evince (probably better than 770's own pdf-reader), Battlegweled (very nice game), and Gnumeric (I simply need it).
I think that 770's Application Manager is buggy and dangerous because I really had those three applications installed (with OS2005 no problems)(2006: don't remember which repos, Gnum however with strange behavior), but then, when I tried to install Gnum's Plug-ins, the whole Appl.Mgr stopped working completely and had to reflash the OS. Confused now, my Appl.Mgr tells: - Under repo "www.maemo.org.br/platform/apt" : Evince and Gnumerics ="not installable", Leafpad ="installable". - Under repo "marceloeduardo.com/apt" : Battlegweled ="not installable", all the other games there "installable". So, under the same repository address there are programs "not installable" and "installable"! Aargh! Has Gnum's Plug-ins destroyed my 770, or is 770's Appl.Mgr just lousy, or are some developers so careless with their announsements, or what?? Has anybody any hint how can I install - safely - at least the Gnumeric? |
The same problem for me... :(
|
Oooh - my blood pressure is now normal. Confusing in unsuccesfully installing Evince, Battlegweled and Gnumeric got a very simple solution:
these three repositories must opened and enabled at the same time: - "www.maemo.org.br/platform/apt mistral user" - "marceloeduardo.com/apt mistral games" - "repository.maemo.org/ mistral free non-free". After refreshing the statuses changed from "not installable" to "installable". Hurrah! I have now Gnumeric (and Evince, Battlegweled). Separately they are not working. I did not know that!! Obviously dependaries etc are taken from different repositories but I did not know that! (I still think that 770's Application Manager is risky and complicated for the enduser when remembering that it stopped working completely during the Gn Plug-ins installation.) |
I will try it too, thank you very much :)
