Mobile Broadband for N810?

I just learned about Cricket wireless broadband. I'm thinking I could replace one of my two existing home broadband services with Cricket 3G and then I will have 3G access for my N810 where ever I go.

In my case, it would cost me no more than what I already pay and I would get mobile 3G that travels with me. That's the ultimate solution. (I'm assuming I can get it to work on Ubuntu at home and the N810 because offically they only support the "other guys".)

Unfortunately, Cricket is not available in my area, but maybe some of you will find this idea worth looking at.

Cricket 3G costs $40/mo for unlimited use, so if you are not replacing home broadband that costs at least that much, it might not be as attractive to you.

If anyone has tested (or does test) this, please let me know. I assume they will be in my area soon because they are in most other parts of the USA.

Or maybe one of the major carriers will offer affordable mobile broadband in my area in the near future. With that in mind, is there any USB device + mobile broadband plan that will work with the N810? (I don't want to use a phone.)

You would need a powered hub, supposing there were adequate drivers for the usb modem.

Unless there is a battery powered usb hub (i dont know), you would have to have it plugged in, severly hampering mobility.

better to tether with a phone. You may be interested in the mifi thing from verizon. At least it is battery powered.

I guess it will only change "everything" for Verizon customers. They are not available in my area. :(

Hang on. AT&T already engaged this a couple of years ago. Now Verizon has. Why this changes everything for everyone is that WiFi is now supported by the providers who have over 80% of the US market. So this service is now, suddenly, a standard. MetroPCS and others will have to get on board or die. How this impacts Sprint/WiMAX has yet to be seen... but my guess is it won't be good for them.

So it may be a while, but be assured this really will benefit all US customers.

"Follow-up: people are reporting that the service is only working for PCs. This is quickly dropping from gamechanger to nonstarter. : / "

I agree. Sounds disappointing to me.
