Maemo-mapper "too many links"
Lest we have too few maemo-mapper threads I thought I should contribute to the community. ;)
I received my GPS receiver today, and got it working. So I went to M-m and tried to get a simple route. I left the default gnuite Source URL. I specified the GPS position for origin and a lat/long for destination about two miles away. When I clicked "OK" to download a route I got the message "too many links". I tried with another route, this one about 250 mi. Same response. What's up with that? |
Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
Honestly, I've never had that error before. Sounds more like it's a server error than a MM error.

Blazing new trails to errordom, that's me.

Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
Geez, now you're making me want to drag out my NIT and try to reproduce your error just so I can see it myself. ^_^;;

Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
Don't bother; it looks like your suspicion was right on. I just tried again and it works, although it gave me a nonsensical result on one route.
Looking back, apparently "too many links" means "busy, try again later". |
Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
Well, one thing I'd like, if gnuite would be ok with it, would be to put rout tracking on the tablet somehow. Even just a command line app that dumps to a file we could load would be enough.

Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
I believe we have that already.
After you've downloaded (and perhaps tweaked -- I'm not that far along yet) a route, you can save it to a file. This would be good for making a trip you know you'll make again, but not often enough to remember all the directions. |
Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
No, no, no. I'm talking about downloading his route making app so we can create our own routes offline. I know about the online route creation and saving, but I'm looking to do it offline on the tablet.

Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
I don't think gnuite has his own route making app. Your talking about the server he runs that downloads the route for you right? I believe all that is, is just a script that automates the work of..
1) going to Google Maps 2) entering the starting: and ending: destination 3) downloading the route as a .gpx file 4) find/replace all cmt references to desc references Essentially what you can already do manually using the gmaptogpx bookmarklet. So I don't know how helpful in having it offline since we would still need a data connection the directions from Google Maps. Though I do apologize if there's something more magical going on. ;) |
Re: Maemo-mapper "too many links"
Meh, I would hope it was more than that. But if that's it, then no biggy. But that does bring up a need to write an app that does that then if one doesn't currently exist. ;)
