Garage FAQ
 

The garage faq looks like garbage to me:

And I'm wondering if I'm the only one seeing this given there are multiple links to the garage faq over the site.

Personally I don't know what information to put in, but if other people are seeing garbage maybe the page should link to here until some FAQs accumulate.

I agree, it looks corrupted. Too bad it isn't a wiki page, then we could fix it.

For future reference, please file a bug report in bugs.maemo.org, as this is undoubtedly a valid complaint. Such stuff easily gets lost (or not read) here in the forum.

So what questions do people want to see in there? FAQs are living documents, but I don't see a lot of people asking questions about Garage. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place?

What is garage, an app store/acquisition point or a geeks depository for unfinished work? It seems like the latter to the average normob, and I hope that isn't what I have to deal with to get apps on my device. That site is horrible!

not the FAQ, but the garage itself. Where are the photos and screen shots? Ratings? Apps with names that explain the function of the apps? We as geeks need to learn to better communicate with users of all levels of experience in order to grow the platform, and that isn't going to work as it is. I got little desire to browse that site. The garage is in bad shape, as if they don't really care if we try the app or not.

christexaport: they're not there because garage.maemo.org is like code.google.com or sourceforge.net. Do you go to your local Porsche's service dept and complain that it's not got clean, showroom-quality cars to look at?

http://maemo.org/downloads/ is the community show room with screenshots, click-to-install, descriptions, rankings and comments. http://maemo.nokia.com/ will promote a subset of those apps as "Maemo Select" to the very very end-users who may never go anywhere except *.nokia.com.
