Brainstorm: Criteria for Progressing Ideas to Under Development and Implemented??

Fellow Brainstorm Mods, and other maemo.org community members,

I was going through some Brainstorms just now, and noticed one raised by zerojay, related to cellular data stats widgets. He mentioned in the comments section that the Brainstorm can be closed since an application was uploaded to extras-devel.

That got me thinking, do we have any criteria for progressing an idea to Under Development, and then to Implemented? In this case, a widget was created, and promoted to extras-devel. Should the Brainstorm move to Under Development until the widget gets moved to extras? In this case, there is no milestone either since it is not an enhancement to core Maemo. Is the logic for moving it to Under Development still OK in this case? I have not (as a Brainstorm mod) yet moved an idea, and was wondering what criteria should be used to move ideas to the next level.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Re: Brainstorm: Criteria for Progressing Ideas to Under Development and Implemented??

Thanks for starting this. My current thoughts after moving ideas between different statuses:

From Sandbox to Under Consideration:
- At least one week old.
- The idea itself has more than 10 karma points (e.g. 15 thumbs up and 4 thumbs down) http://maemo.org/community/brainstor..._actual_ideas/
- Contains at least one solution to vote.
- It can be demoted back to Sandbox if solutions are mixed with the proposal description.

From Under Consideration to Under Development
- The Maemo team has incorporated one of the solutions proposed to a public roadmap or
- Proof of work from any development project exists, be the team from Nokia, the Maemo community, related upstream OSS projects or any other third party.
- It can be demoted back to Under Consideration if the work is clearly stalled or abandoned.

From Under Development to Implemented
- The solution is available to pure end users through a stable release distributed through Nokia supported channels including maemo.org.
- It should go back to a previous status in the case that the software released is not distributed anymore, is totally unmaintained, etc.

Thanks for the guidance. One comment on this though:

Is Brainstorm really going to take into account the maintenance status of individual products from the s/w distribution channels? IMO, that may be a little out of scope of Brainstorm.

Well, it should be feasible to follow at least the Maemo official releases.

btw, how to interpret the lack on feedback for all the rest? Agreement, whatever...?

The other points are good. I personally do not see anything wrong with them. Perhaps it should be added to the wiki, and then it can refine organically over time. When I get a chance, I'll add it. Thanks!

Sounds good to me, the one thing I've wondered so far is: "The idea itself has more than 10 karma points". Why is there something like a prevoting/threshold before it's moved to "Under Consideration"? In general I've always been confused that one can vote for proposals in the Sandbox already.
