Ad-hoc networking and the 770?

In a couple of weeks, I'll be visiting a relative far far away. He does have broadband Internet, but no wireless network in his home. I'd really love to take my 770 with me, but there isn't any room left to take a wireless router (and besides, I only have the one).

I do have a USB WiFi stick though, but I know next to nothing about ad-hoc networking. Is it sufficient to plonk the stick into his computer, set it up for ad-hoc networking and NokiLLo will see it? He runs XP at home.

Or is more neuromancery needed?

Once you enable Internet Connection Sharing on the PC, that should be pretty much it, yes. But depending on what type/brand of USB stick it is, I have a hunch that the range will be very poor indeed.

Thanks!

Range really isn't the problem; I can live (well, surf) with 5m or even less. After all, it's only for two weeks. The problem is to get NokiLLo connected without buying YAPOK (Yet Another Piece Of Kit) <TM>.

Oh, and the stick is a US Robotics 5423, FWIW.

I use a USB wifi stick at my Dad's house. It actually has an access point mode. I think most of them do.
Even though I paid only $5.00 for it, it is fast and has great range; I've used it at 15 meters with no apparent slowdown for torrents on my 770.
