Nokia N900 to get 1.000.000 hits on GSMArena!

In short, this will be a nice achievment, which shows that Maemo will have a bunch of casual users as well, and it'd be good if the communicity prepared for that, if they wasn't aware of that earlier (in case anyone missed my unprofessional posts, because there will come more in the future :D). Much of this is already known, and in case you're short of time, skip this thread.

---

First off, this thread is kind of pointless (you've been warned), but on the other side, it does show the marketing success of the N900 - by not being marketed at all. This way, the N900 has been considered as an even better device, due Nokia's will to "underplay it" to let their other devices shine as well. Nice tactical choise by Nokia (if done by purpose), which also saved them a couple of bucks!

However, it might be quite obvious that Maemo is no longer a niche, but I still think it's more popular than many people here think it is. By that I generally mean the tech world outside Maemo dedicated sites (like GSMArena, a not too professional site, but their visitors are still much more informed than the average Joe). At least Maemo is now a step closer to the mainstream than its previous version were.

Maemo has recently got a lot of shine in the fame when the N900 was revealed, but the question is whether it will be able to keep its momentum with only one device. Somewhat proof for that is the fact that N900 still has 70 % of daily interest in GSMArena (which is one of the phone world's biggest sites by visitors). As the topic title says, it's also getting close to 1 million hits (obviously not unique hits).

Keep in mind that GSMArena is just one tech site, out of many others. But the N900 has recieved a lot of attention overall in Europe as well. "Unfortunately" it has aslo become quite popular in Asia (however to a lesser degree) , which isn't a good thing for the Nokia brand, since the N900 isn't going to be officially released there, while it's considered as the best thing Nokia has to date, which might damage the Nokia brand, which is extremly powerful in Asia. Looks like Nokia underestimated the N900 after all, or did they?

Anyway, the reason why I made this thread was because the N900 has already became well known - without much advertising. This means the device's future in terms of sales doesn't look too bad. The real question is whether Nokia awarely underplayed it (and are prepared for its wide appeal), or if they might have some eventual problems to meet the demand (which will be there).

Re: Nokia N900 to get 1.000.000 hits in GSMArena!

This is a nonsense:
From the same website here is what it says:

Page hits:
  • Apple
    iPhone = 5,790,121
    iPhone 3G = 4,593,097
    iPhone 3GS = 1,699,551
  • Nokia
    N95 = 10,163,079
    5800 XpressMusic = 7,631,869
    N97 = 6,800,333
    N96 = 6,771,330
    N95 8GB = 5,838,387
    N82 = 5,440,223
    N900 = 983,637
    X6 = 927,152

Now from the list , are you telling me that there are almost the same number of N95-8GB and iPhone (1st gen)?

of course such a list doesnt say much, but after asking google, i found figures that indicate that N95 (both N95 and N95 8GB) was sold 20mio times and the first gen iphone 6mio times. the ratio in the list (5.7:16.0) isn't too far away from this.

Those numbers are indeed correct.

Well, as you are going to use the list against me (Lets me use it as well).
As you are assuming 1 sell = 1 hit

From the list: iPhone (1gen) got 5,790,121 hits ~ 5,790,121 sold
According to you 20millions N95+N95-8gb got sold. So, this means only 9,836,921 N95-8gb got sold ,right?
Now, you can see N95-8gb is sold more by 59.35% than whats these numbers saying. Again lets say it in anther way, 9,836,921N95-8GB got sold ,so we suppose to get the same figure (a little bit more or less) for iPhone (1st gen), but according to this ,its been sold only 5,790,121 iPhones (1gen).

the ratio here is point less, by linking both of hits number and sold figures we are saying that each person who visted that site, bought the phone he saw! (Remember, many people looks to few phones to compare between them and even some just want to read GSMArena comments).

If someone still thinking, I am wrong feel free to correct me :)

@zerojay: The same answer (as above) ;)

Fair enough f(x), but seriously what are the chances of a 1-hit phone on gsmarena outselling a million-hit phone on the same site? I doubt the thread starter is trying to imply that a correlation exists, he's probably just excited that the N900 is turning people's heads.

Thinkin' outside the taco shell here.
What this could be telling me is that perhaps people who already purchased a phone aren't that happy with it and are already looking for something better. :)

Re: Nokia N900 to get 1.000.000 hits in GSMArena!

I'd care more if GSMArena had the specs right on the n900. Last I looked, there were some glaring errors. So all those people are mis-informed. ;)

Edit. I see they've made some corrections. That's more helpful!
