Questions about the phone aspect of the n900
 

So most videos, reviews, and threads I've seen focus on the computer side of the n900 and that's great. However, because I am also buying the n900 to replace my phone (a simple clamshell) I'm also interested in what phone aspects the n900 has.

1) Ringtones

Is it standard mp3 file you select? How many can you designate? For example, can you have a ringtone per person (if you really wanted too?)

2) Voice dialing

I read a post on here that said there was a lack of voice dialing on the n900. Is this true? Even my free phone I got a few years ago has basic voice dialing (with names) though it probably only works 1/4th of the time.

3) Comfort

How is everyone's experience when holding the phone up to your ear for prolong periods of time? Say 30 minutes to an hour? (yes I know you can also use headsets). I couldn't imagine holding the n800 up to my ear for hours upon time (granted I know the n900 is smaller but it is thicker).

4) Voice and sound quality

How is the microphone on the device?

5) The quality of the signal of the GSM/GPRS/3G/something-else is good?

1. One standard mp3 for a profile (currently there's only one profile besides silent, though the existence of a Profiles item in Settings can tell us that there will be probably more). I couldn't find a way to assign personal ringtones, but maybe there is or will be a way.

2. No voice dialing as reported.

3. I find it comfortable and not heavy, but I don't have 30 mins conversations too :) N900 is much smaller than N800 as you probably know.

That's disapointing, hopefully there will be a way to have lots of profiles. But.. what are profiles? Like overall settings for the phone? (silent, vibrate, etc..). Or just like groups for other phones (e.g. family, friends, etc..)

I don't know, currently there are two - Silent and General - the second has tons of settings for different rings and clicks.

Seems like device modes, like general settings for the device overall for what to do for an SMS, ring, etc..). This is extremely dissapointing if we can only set ringtones through profiles then. Hopefully we can at least set a ringtone per group.

Some experimentation in /etc/profiled/ might help with that.

Yeah, though I won't be able to find out myself till I get the device in my hands (which will then be meh.). So I was hoping someone who has the device could snoop around. =P
