Physical damage to the n900
 

So one week in and I drop the n900. Resulting in a small dent to the metal bezel -- as it fell screen side down onto the edge of a step.

I'm wondering if it wise to pop this bezel off to tap the dent out? Or if it's that easy too.

It actually feels like there is no back fill to the metal bezel.

There is also a tiny fracture in the screen, below the edge of the bezel, 2mm long at most.

It's a tiny no real damage dent, but enough to fire my OCD up on how I already damaged the new toy.

I'll post a photo later once I've found and charged my digital camera.

I'm curious how well the other 299 are doing, damage wise?

Hmm. One idea before you pop the bezel would be to use dry-ice to try to get the dent out. My only concern would be that it might exacerbate the crack in the screen. Best luck and let us know what you ultimately decide.

I'd be careful with the dry ice, the bezel could contract enough to constrict the device and cause warping or cracks...depending on what things are made of, you also have to take into account that the temperature will transfer and could damage some internal electronics or something else.

Strange... I've dropped (and have had mine dropped) so many times that I can't remember how many... And no damage yet. But, I digress. The safest thing to do would be to leave it -- so long as the device still works. If it isn't working, or becomes dysfunctional, you may have to send it back to Nokia... Does the PLA discuss anything like this?

It was a fluke drop, a left handed fumble, as it came out of my pocket, fell and the bezel hit a metal edge I guess at about 15degrees to the screen. The bezel seems to be have a slight 'crumple' I assume because it's not back filled.

It doesn't seem to be interfering with the screen at the moment.

I don't recall the loan agreement mentioning returns and repairs.
