A plea to lcuk

Gary

I was watching your video
http://maemotalk.com/2009/10/20/liqb...e-lcuk-appeal/

I suddenly realized that your application is getting too clever and you may never finish.

You only need to release a single small app that does the drawing wall. Get that onto the OVI store and start making some money man.

Then get the torch out
Then get the Calendar out

assuming Nokia sell 500K N900's in the next year, and you get 10% downloads for each app at a pound each, we would all have you available here in the community instead of doing some corporate crap.

I'd go for that - though I'd say get the torch out now - I think it's already more or less finished.

Re: A plea to lcuk

you are right,

this is the part I talk about "coaxing these hacks into the general community"

theres a couple of gotchas, things dont quite integrate properly as it stands and need workarounds

it doesn't composite and needs some way to make x11 pixmap of the current liqbase XV screen when its minimized (otherwise it looks crap)
if i leave XV running, then I cannot run more than 1 standalone app at a time - because XV is limited to only 2 and media player/camera use them.
I considered solutions and broached the subject of using liqbase in a desktop widget (storing the most recent screen as a screenshot, and showing that in the widget).

theres an annoying flash when you open stand alone apps (I left a bug report, thats low level xv initialization)

my head is still blown up by packaging things ( I have a template for new stuff but i cant change it)

im only doing what i can :S

i dont know much about any of this stuff and cant just ask for people to do stuff, i can leave questions and messages around and hope people participate but then because the things I have problems with are obscure nothing gets cured.

so i work where i can and where i feel comfortable which is been making my code work well.
i am used to having people with me who i can direct (or if they are busy do it myself) and still don't quite get distributed development, I am too impulsive and would rather be coding than twiddling my thumbs pondering if someone will work on something.

i am used to writing a big list of things todo on a whiteboard or page and having everyone work through them.

so, status as of right now:

  • the playground can have anything added.
  • new apps can be created and used standalone and also in the playground.
  • the library has just tonight actually been rebuilt and cures a serious crashable bug thats in the current -extras repository - that is just copying to my machine so i can upload it to -devel
my laptop has been broken for the last couple of weeks and i've not been able to push this update till today (got me a wired connection now - the wireless is dead)

the code has been available on github.com/lcuk for ages

  • the torch is standalone and has a deb all on its own and is in extras-testing
  • the postcard is standalone as has a deb all on its own and is in extras-testing
  • even the control panel is standalone
  • liqflow will have one v soon (i have technical considerations which are being worked through)
  • the calendar exists in playground package currently but can easily be rearranged to standalone
  • the sketch/graffiti wall can be standalone with some moving (not code)
  • the remote control is standalone but specific to my network
  • the presentation software loads vb frm files and isnt really practical
  • the user list is waiting for the network code im writing to show people on the same wifi segment and be able to draw between them
  • im **** at this

todo as of right now for "user ready"
  • compositing "cover screen" when minimized
  • green flash removal
  • optification
  • package rearranging
  • package building on device (then anyone can do liqbase stuff without scratchbox)
  • anything the testers come up with (I know of at least one memory leak that I havent tracked yet)

whos good at planning that i can talk to and sort out a proper checklist to get some things done?

You need a business-oriented partner to handle the support and other engagements. ;)
