N900 Vs HTC HD2 Leo..what is your opinion??
 

I was waiting to buy N900 when It become released but one of my friends told me that there will be device better than nokia n900 from HTC called HTC HD2 Leo..and now I do not know which one I will buy so what is your opinion concerning that ?? :confused:

better comparison is the 'droid' since it has a keyboard also.

It looks uglier, but it does have a capacitive screen and slimmer

Well, i looked up the HD2 and it's kinda hard to give a definitive answer. The hardware is pretty much the same, with 2 notable differences:
*bigger cpu frequencies and more ram on hd2: note that this isn't necessarily a big advantage; the cpu's are different architectures and wikipedia says that arm cpu's are more efficient, even with lower speeds; and the extra ram will probably just be compensating for the lame windows mobile
* screen: bigger (which obviously also means bigger phone) and capacitive; it seems however that windows mobile doesn't support multitouch, which htc says their phone has
Otherwise, the hardware on N900 and HD2 is pretty much the same. So is the price. The big difference is in the software: Maemo 5 vs WinMo 6.5 . I haven't used any, so i can't give a first-hand impression. What it is clear to me is:
- as far as i remember, there is no real multitasking in winmo; apps stay where they were when you switched, as opposed to going about their business like in maemo
- maemo ~ linux, which means that it can share things with linux desktop platforms, like ubuntu; while this may not be that great for a non-techie, it can provide both software and help from the desktop world
All in all, it's a choice: do you want freedom (maemo) instead of having your hand held by software vendors?

my opinion:

It'd be OUTSTANDING if it had a 5 row keyboard (like the touch pro 2), and Android or Maemo. It's the right size, and has lots of great hardware features. But, without the keyboard and with WinMO, there's no way I'll touch it.

Basically the HD2 has a substantially bigger screen. It's thinner and lighter, but has no keyboard. If you don't need a keyboard or the N900's stereo speakers and 32GB storage, the HD2 hardware looks pretty good.

But for most of us here the software is what will sway the decision. The relatively open Maemo vs the closed Windows Mobile 6.5. The relatively consistent Maemo interface vs HTCs lipstick on the WM pig. (And I can program Maemo in python!)

I've ordered the N900 and hope that my eyes will be happy with the smaller screen. Apart from the Maemo OS, what swung it for me is that the N900 seems like a much better convergence device. The various functions (phone, computer, navigation device, music player, camera) just seem so much better balanced (plenty of memory for the music player and stereo speakers, a protective lens cover over a decent camera lens, full internet experience on the web browser, etc).

Not to mention that the N900, despite having 32GB more memory, is significantly less expensive.

But wow, when you see the HD2 video showing the huge bright 4.3" maps and web pages it does look great!

If the N900 got rid of the physical keyboard and went for a screen like on the HD2 I dont think I could contain myself.

With that said, there are clear advantages I can see to the HD2 over the N900, however, you read on and it's Win Mo 6.5 and there's feck all memory. HD2 certainly seems like a pretty nifty smart phone, but I really want more than a smart phone, so i'll go with N900

The main reason I am not interested in it is because it only has 65k colors. Neither am I convinced about Win Mobile. Also n900 is cheaper.

i read something about connecting an external keyboard to the HD2 USB port. i don't know if its true.

i agree with the 65k colour argument as well.

i gave a comment earlier on about this as well.
The bigger screen is somehow compensated by the n900's physical keyboard, meaning you do not need on screen space to type.

this might be a little bit of a SIMPLE oppinion giving speech, but nonetheless: i think the n900 is a more of an active device, the hd2 more of a passive device.

my own decision is also based for a big part on design, both the n900 and htc hd2 are not the prettiest things i've ever seen.
would give a 7.1 for n900, 7.3 for hd2.

(yes, the .1 and .3 do matter :o )
