MP3 ringtones on N900
 

I tried to install an MP3 ringtone for my N900. I went into my profile menu, select the ringtones and select "add" to add in an mp3 file from my sound library. When selecting the file it quits the menu and show the error message "Internal error. Application settings closed".

The file is an MP3 I've added onto the device. It works when I chose an MP3 that was preloaded on the device ???

Help anyone?

The file was actually an MPEG4 and apparently it isn't supported by the N900...

to make it perfectly clear and avoid unnecessary misunderstandings:

the N900 supports mp3 ringing tones.

Well done for working this out. If there isn't already, maybe you should file a bugs.maemo.org bug report about the unhelpful error message. It would be better if it said "file format not supported" or similar, instead of "Internal error. Application settings closed".

I dont have MP3, All my music is in OGG.

N900 Support ogg ringtones ?

Play at least ogg ?
And whynot ? Linux encourage OGG support.

What Maemo encourage ?

UPDATE: I have readed other post regarding this ogg issue.But, uppon ogg package instalation, Can add ogg as a ringtone ?

But, you might want to hold off on using non-Nokia mp3 ringtones until it is fixed via firmware update, since the current implementation seems buggy...

The same situation happens when you want to change the alarm tone in Clock. I filled a bug report here:
