browser plugins? Maemo code names and "steps"?

does the built-in browser support plugins? if so, does anyone know if anyones working on a plugin to install and run userscripts in the same vein as opera and greasemonkey? imo, a browser with these kind of capabilities on a (well, in essence, rly an internet tablet with phone capabilities etc) phone would be absolutely amazing!

another quick question for those who know, I know that the N900 and Maemo 5 is step 5 in a 6 step plan to bring Maemo to the mass market, does this mean Maemo 6 and the device(s) associated are step six? obvious answer is yes, but I read that release 4 was skipped due to chinese tradition or *something*, so I dunno.

thanks in advance for any replies! :-)

No, Maemo 5 and the N900 are step 4 of 5.

No, they're step 5.

Elephanta was skipped.
  • Mistral (Maemo 2)
  • Scirocco (Maemo 2.1)
  • Gragale (Maemo 2.2)
  • <shift to alphabetical code names>
  • Bora (Maemo 3.x)
  • Chinook (Maemo 4)
  • Diablo (Maemo 4.1)
  • Elephanta (skipped in favor of bringing Maemo 5 out earlier)
  • Fremantle (Maemo 5)
  • <"G"-name skipped due to Gragale>
  • Harmattan (Maemo 6)

whoops! can easily see where the confusion comes from though! :P (Maemo 5 and Maemo 6) but thanks none-the-less. So, was I right in assumin Maemo 6 will be the final step in the projection of Maemo into the mass market (I know there will be Maemo 7, 8 etc, obviously, but by then Maemo should be just as common as say Android)

That's my understanding. Here's more speculation on that:

So was there never a Maemo 1? And no alphabetical code name starting with A?

There was, but it didn't have a wind codename.

I never knew the names were all winds.

Was Elephanta the only choice for E?

While other options such as Etesian or Euros may have been considered, Elephanta was the named selected for "E".
