I'm wondering why anyone cares or is surprised? Apple is only targeting the high end, can't compete in the emerging markets yet, and is heavily hedged in the US. They SHOULD make more profit than Nokia, at least a higher ROI. However, one bad economic issue in the US, or if Nokia got an exclusivity deal similar to the iPhone for a competitive device, and Apple has problems they couldn't easily reverse.

Apple is not diversified, and are actually exposed as an investment risk.

This was already debated at length in a thread I started, with the result being mixed as to what really makes sense.

However, the article you cite makes a very basic mistake that I already pointed out in this post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=372159&postcount=7.

The author of the Betanews article compares Apple's total net profit for Q3 to Strategy Analystic's estimate of Apple's operating profit for the iPhone. Net profit and operating profit are two entirely different things. I explain it in my post linked to above. Or look it up on wikipedia.

I'm amazed that a supposed news site, so snottily criticizing other news site for an alleged mistake, can base it's own reasoning on such a basic error. Lame.
