SVN BT plugin upgrade
I have looked around and have not found the answer to this. How do I upgrade the BT plugin using SVN? I am getting tired of not being able to use the enter key. If there is a how-to somewhere feel free to just point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
edit: I found my answer, kind of. I found out it has to be done via scratchbox. I was hoping to be able to upgrade on the 770 itself. Oh well... |
Once you've compiled it in Scratchbox, you could always make the deb available for others to make it easier for them...

We'll see if I can figure it all out...

I have been holding off on buying a bluetooth keyboard for use with my 770, largely due to all the reports I have seen on this site of crashing with the unofficial bluetooth plugin. From what I have been able to gather, it sounds like the plugin makers have been unable to properly work around these problems due to some problems with the way the maemo platform handles input selection (please correct me if I am wrong).
A lot of people have responded to my criticism of the lack of certain features like Bluetooth HID support, crappy email client, lack of flash support, etc. with comments to the effect of "Well, Nokia can't do everything and they have made this great open source platform, so if you don't like the way they have done something, you can do it yourself." In at least this case, some issues with the platform itself seem to be blocking 3rd party development of a widely requested feature that imo should be part of the base operating system. If Nokia is going to rely on 3rd parties to make the "killer apps" that will ultimately make/break the platform, then I think they need to be more responsive to the needs of those 3rd parties. The maemo community site has been a great step towards that and is above and beyond the efforts of almost any other company I can think of in a similar situation. Still, I can't help but feel that for the maemo platform to really be a success, there needs to be more public give and take between Nokia and the developer community. |
The bluetooth ketboards are also way too expensive IMO. I've been trying to find a mini (pda) usb keyboard with no success...

Apparently the plugin makers have fixed it but just haven't repackaged it. Even with this bug the keyboard (it is HID) connects and works very well with no configuration at all (unless you want it to be qwertz, which is a trivial configuration that the plugin handles). If you do decide to get a kb I recommend the Think Outside Sierra. I hear you on the rest of what you said though. I think that if as many people (or even 1/16th) owned a 770 as do a Linux box, we wouldn't be having these issues. We'd just be going to sourceforge and downloading whatever app we wanted. IMO... |
I have been eying the Freedom keyboard and the Stowaway one. If you are looking for something cheaper, Brando Workshop appears to have a few Bluetooth models dirt cheap ($56-70). I am curious to see what people think of their Bluetooth keyboards, as they are the least expensive models I have found. The "Mini" looks to small to really be practical, but I bet I could hit a pretty decent clip on their "Smart" model, especially after many years of working on HPCs. I bought my aluminum case for my 770 from Brando and am very satisfied with it.

Thanks for the lead Rocketman.

look at svn web for fix
You don't need to rebuild the bt plugin to fix the <Enter> problem. Look at their svn web site to see how they changed xmodmap for en and de. Just edit the xmodmaps that the bt plugin installed the same way. It's just a one line change.

I did look and it was not at all clear to me. Would you mind pointing it out to me more specifically? thanks...
