2.5G on US T-Mobile

So I got my N900 (sry to those still waiting) and on T-Mobile in the US, I'm showing a data coonnection of 2.5G in a 3G active area (seen it on G2 in same spot). Speed seems pretty good. But is this full T-Mobile 3G just showing up as 2.5 on the phone or am I missing something?

TIA

You probably need to ask T-Mobile to switch your plan to '3G smartphone' data plan. That happened to another person here which signed up T-Mobile plan but realized 3G did not come in default.

Thanks for the replys.

I finally took it out of the house and noticed that the number changed. I saw values of 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5. Is it possible that it's "measuring" speed to determine the "g" number?

No, it's based on the available signal and capabilities of the tower.

e.g. EDGE(2.5) available on 1900mhz only for t-mobile.
3G/3.5G available on 1700/2100mhz for tmobile, and within that only 3.5G (HSDPA) available on towers which have the hardware for it.

Same here, I'm in NY and in my apartment it fluctuates between 2.5, 3 and 3.5G.
There's a huge difference between 2.5 and 3G on this device.

Can't wait for my crappy ATT contract to be over!
