Switching between 3G and 3.5G
Hi!
I have observed that N900 normally uses 3G network, but when I try to open a web page in browser, phone switches to 3.5G. Few seconds after web page load is complete, N900 goes back to 3G. It's coincidence or normal phone behaviour? I know that difference between 3G and 3.5G lies only in data transfer, but I thought that 3.5G icon will be displayed all the time as long as HSPDA is available. Anyone is able to clarify this? I also have impression that N900 compared to my old N80 more often falls back to 2(.5G) network. What are your observations? [sory for posting in wrong forum. You're really fast guys :), I haven't managed to move this message before your replies ] |
Re: Switching between 3G and 3.5G
My 3g is pretty stable, with occasional dips into 3.5g. It does seem to go back and forth quite a bit. Maybe we're on the edge of coverage?

But I think it would make more sense for the 3.5G indicator to show availability rather than when it's actively being used. |

That's normal. It only reads 3.5G when in an active data transfer. It is in UMTS when showing 3G and when an active transfer is happening it activates HSDPA and it shows as 3.5G. If your network supports HSDPA it will show 3.5G during transfers. If your network supports HSDPA it is available when 3G is showing. |
