Pushing Nokia to release PC Suite for Linux

Hi,

I think still with the Maemo devices the Nokia PC suites are still needed to upload Ovi Maps, make other updates etc.

Couldn't the Maemo users and developers make a proposal to Nokia to make the PC Suite available for Linux? I'm very sick and tired to boot Windows, just to update my stuff e.g. on my N82. Would it not be ridiculous to have a Linux based Maemo device, but no PC suite available for Linux? I think Nokia should feel the need for a Linux PC Suite!

Hi,

I believe Nokia is focusing Ovi Suite that is much better than PC suite ever was even as a beta version. To my understanding MacOSX version is under way and as Ovi suite is based on QT, even Linux version is possible but have not seen commitment. MacOSX version would do for me :)

Not having to use PC/Ovi Suite is a feature, not an omission! That ...thing... is horrible.

Here's an easy way to sync the data on your N900 with your Linux desktop using Conduit.

They don't even have Maemo device support in Ovi Suite for Windows, I doubt they'd have support for the application in Linux any time soon..

I use Conduit on Ubuntu. Here's a screenshot of the program's UI. It's very simple.

You can either transfer your files in one direction (to your device) or sync it both ways between a folder on your device and your pc.

I run linux on my laptop (F12). However I'm not really a "pc suite" fan.

I'm all for getting the devices easy to use, but think the future is in more online/cloud services which can be accessed from desktop and mobile, and built on open standards.

The N900 is a computer -- why do I need one other one to "tether it" too. I use quite a few of varying OSs.

What reason do we need PC Suite on Linux for. The 3g modem just works, and the thing is a drag and drop device as far as the camera, media, flash drive aspects are concerned. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to know, but I don't see many use cases for this.
