Nokia N900 Synchronization with Kontact or other linux destop apps?
 

I have been searching around for a while now, even contact Nokia to find out if N900 will support synchronization with the desktop applications like Kontact for calendar and contact information. I really prefer not go via google or so to do a double sync of information online and then back to the desktop.

The response I have from Nokia is as follows
"This is in regard to your inquiry if Nokia N900 will have a software that will support Linux Sync. We would like to let you know that Nokia N900 will be supported by Linux Software and it would probably mean that it will support Linux Sync. As of the moment, we do not have any information about this software for Linux. Rest assured that Nokia will provide its customers with this software the soonest time possible."

However I have seen no further updates and here I am trying to reach out to the community to see if anyone has any further information on the same?

I wanted to confirm that before I shift from the iPhone to n900 which has been a real pain since I have openSuse and XP 64bit where the iPhone is not supported in either.

Please advice.

I am also interested in finding a solution. I just got a n900 and am trying to decide if I'll keep it or not. There are some significant reasons why I might not keep it including mail/calendar/contact synchronization.

Well, there's the GPE PIM available for N900 (* I haven't tried that out yet *) and that's supposedly opensync compatible so I see no reason why that couldn't be synced with kontact. But I'll say it again, I haven't tried any of that and I'm no expert on pim suites. That's just something you might want try...

Short answer: Even after 6 month there is no working sync-solution available.

Ok, ok... some people do install a local groupware-server to sync their phones to their 10 appointments each month...

It seams to be an utterly complex development project to compare two textfiles (n900-calendar-"db"-export, akonadi-sql-result) and sync them.

Yes, the continued lack of a workable sync to Kontact is a frustration

Just tried a local funambol installation with syncevolution... omfg...

1. funambol-setup simple and straightforward. I wish they would publish the default port... DAMN I had to look 10 minutes or so -.-

2. synevolution for opensuse 11.2 = funny if you would like to compile yourself... I tried. But found a binary-repository a couple of mins later which actually did run.

3. kde... please... all of them go to hell for changing everything every update... but somehow I got todos into files...

4. tadaaaaaaaaa.... syncevolution doesn't like the todo-files or some funambol-defaults...

5. f*ck it... I'm going to boot into windows... just for todos... you can't believe, can you?
ripping 2 dvds and streaming media to my playstation3 in the livingroom -> well done, linux...
working with calendar, todos and contacts -> if you have 2 days sparetime which you are willing to invest in repairing all your contact-entries (nice one: all phonenumbers are "working phone" numbers now -.-), no problems... but... I'm not _that_ maso...

Hello guys,
I am pretty new around N900, but I did managed to see my calendar items in the Korganizer by replacing one field in each item in the file.

VERSION:1.0 => VERSION:2.0

This works for me on KDE (4.4.5) and KOrganizer (Version 4.4.9)
