Software keyboard doesnt work in IM's?

Anyone notice the software keyboard does not work in the conversation screens? Not critical, I just wnted to make sure it wasnt just me because my software keyboard has been quirky, sometimes working and sometimes not

The onscreen keyboard is laughable, but I guess they had to make it huge because the screen isn't capacitive? I dunno.

I find that if im in the IM conversation and then click on the IM logo on the right side of the text input box, then the virtual keyboard comes up.

I've never even seen the onscreen keyboard and have no idea how to make it appear.

If it's like the older tablets, use your thumb and press with pressure on any text entry box.

The previous tablets had two on screen keyboards, the huge one you see now for thumb usage. And a small one for stylus use. No clue why they got rid of the stylus one..

I used to use the stylus keyboard of the N800 with my fingers. It was tiny but worked well. I preferred the stylus keyboard because I could still see the context of the webpage I was typing into. I was sad to see it go.

I never used the handwriting recognition of the N800, but my daughter did. That's gone too now.

Roger

I know I am the only one here... but I still <3 my t9 entry mechanism and hope to see it come to the n900 with add'll portrait support in the future.

How exactly? The iPhone/iPod Touch one is also huge, so that rather breaks your argument.

In fact, they can make them SMALLER on resistive screens than capacitive, because you can use the stylus.

Personally I will not use the on-screen keyboard until they add portrait support to things and unfortunately so far there is no mention of IM/Conversations being upgraded to portrait mode. :(

It's disabled by default in Maemo 5/N900, so has to be enabled first in Settings.
