n900 macro shot problem
hello, i need help, been playing with the phone for a while and tried taking pictures in macro mode, phone is like 1.5-2 inches away from the subject ...see pics for yourself
http://www.flickr.com/photos/18831981@N06/ ...seems like camera won't focus right, is it the same with yours? |
Re: n900 macro shot problem
Hm, looks like we need some manual focus! Are you half pressing the shutter button to focus before shooting?
EDIT: Are you in low enough light that the LEDs fire to focus? That gave me an issue when I moved real close to something. That seems to make the camera catch focus on stuff behind the object I was shooting though. |
Re: n900 macro shot problem
Are you getting a green indicator saying the focus is set? It looks like it is focusing properly, just its focused on something other than what you want it to. You may experiment with objects that are on a wall without anything behind it could possibly focus on to be sure its focusing properly.

Re: n900 macro shot problem
2 inches? what do you expect?
not even dedicated digital cameras can focus properly in macro-mode at this distance. |
Re: n900 macro shot problem
If you look at your photos the focus is about an inch past where you probably meant it to be. Hopefully we'll get a manual focus option in an update :-D

Re: n900 macro shot problem
@sadfist, yes i did the half press on the shutter to manually focus. i was trying to figure out how close can the camera be to the subject in macro mode but i cannot find this info anywhere. low enough light might be the culprit too but the flash only went off on the logitech pic
@chris, yep, i did get that green indicator. ill prolly test the camera more and find out another thing, my camera has a freaking white spec/dust or whatever that's inside the camera lens, seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/18831981@N06/?saved=1 it doesn't affect the pictures that i've taken yet. i just hope that when the phone gets nudged, that thing won't go in the middle. or should i just return it? |
Re: n900 macro shot problem
Here is another shot:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lunasola/4159946593/ I notice that there is some problem with macro mode if you are closer than 3cm to the subject though. so I think there is a limit to how close you can get. |

as i said, even normal digital cameras have problem focussing when the object is closer than 3-5 cm, depending on the model. what do you expect from a mobile phone camera? |
