Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend - Feedback
Since I didn't find any feedback thread and wanted to express some thoughts about the event here is one :).
In general I loved the event, the space is very interesting for these kind of events, we had a good Internet connection and the food was really great. Sessions: I only attended the keynotes, the rest of the time I hang out in the UX meets code area, so I can't really comment about this part of the event. UX meets code: I really like group brainstormings :). I learned a lot this weekend, many thanks for the friendly folks from the UX team. I specially liked the way they conducted the sessions, instead of they do the actual work, they encouraged us to work in groups with a UX specialist that acted like a moderator, really productive IMO. My only complain is that IMO in some sessions we didn't had enough time to brainstorm and present the ideas with more details, perhaps a extension of 30min~1h can solve this issue. In general it was a very productive weekend with a lot of fun at night, was very good to see some familiar faces and meet some people in person. PS: We need bigger badges next time ;) |

I share your same feelings.. I wish I had the opportunity to share my ideas and thoughts with the others.
I liked the moderator idea as well, but I wish there was a "whole room" brainstorming as well. There was a time when this happened (kind of) when we were making up new metaphors for MaStory. It was funnier to share your thoughts with everyone else. In general though, I really liked it. We developers needed to be taught those general concepts regarding concepting, usability and graphics of a UI and this was, I think, a good way to do it. Aniello |
Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend - Feedback
Can't speak much to the UX track as I only attended the concepting workshop on Friday morning (which was excellent, by the way), but the documentation track was really excellent. We really had a great group of people (and people are the most important part!) and big thanks to Mary and Titta for bringing in new ideas a providing some focus!
I was a bit disappointed by the food and the lack of lunch on Saturday and Sunday (which were the smaller, more focused days when it would have been more useful). A hotel with free WiFi wouldn't have gone unappreciated, either (although NH Cornellá was the perfect distance from Citilab). Quote:
Really, though, the event was absolutely amazing. I've abused the hell out of superlative adjectives over the past two days describing it and will be continuing to do so over the next few. ;) |

Vindicated! And I was told it wouldn't be necessary... :p Soberly, though... I have been meaning to create a generic template. Will do so. |
Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend - Feedback
I've posted this elsewhere (so sue me for a spammer) but the last 3 posts of my blog are about 4000 words about the event for next time you're really, really bored.

Hi all-
I'm reposting this from the other thread just in case you missed it there: If you still need some UX help with your app, feel free to join up to #maemo or #maemo-ui on irc.freenode.net - a lot of the folks who came out for the weekend are on IRC and can lend a hand: Adele: aSIMULAtor or aSIMULAter Steffen: sthalme Martin S: Martin Jussi: jmaaniit Martin G: MartinG Jan: krebbix I think I speak for all of us when I say that it was really great to get some interactive sessions going on with all of you, both on an individual level and with the group brainstorming! I think the icon metaphor workshop was especially interesting myself. |
Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend - Feedback
A wonderful event, although too little time to do everything I planned (so the new gPodder version will be delayed for another week). It was helpful to have a dedicated person that is both a user of the application and a designer, so we could go back and forward with new ideas, and I could implement parts of some ideas right away to try them out interactively.
I couldn't attend the documentation event, which I would have liked to, but there was just not enough time. Maybe I will just file bugs about the documentation improvement ideas I have.. The UX presentations were really well structured and helpful. A technical rant: Please don't block port 22 at the WiFi for such events. SSH to a developer is probably as important as HTTP to an end user ;) |
Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend - Feedback
Hi guys,
I'm working on the PUSH N900 campaign and would've loved to have been able to make it over to Barcelona, all of these notes are just making me wish I'd been there to put some faces to the people I see posting on here. There's a few pictures from the event and more info on the PUSH N900 campaign here: http://blogs.nokia.com/pushn900/ |
Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend - Feedback
Firstly, I want to apologize because my ignorance of English language I have been a bit distant with some people from the community.
I also know that I misunderstood some things during the weekend, and the graphics session wasn't as productive as it could have been if I had a better knowledge of the language (I warned it though). So, my sincere apologies for that. I promise that next time it won't happen. I am a nice guy and I hope to demonstrate it in the following events ;-) Now about the event itself:
So, a BIG THANKS to all people involved, like I said in the interview: "you really don't know what a community is until that you see them". |
Re: Maemo-Barcelona Long Weekend - Feedback
Hello all-
I'm glad to hear that you all had a good time and learned more about UX! Once again I speak for all of the UXers there when I say that it was great to roll up our sleeves and work on some apps directly with the maemo community! If you want to check out the slides that were shown, I've put them online at http://www.slideshare.net/darabella. Hope they're helpful! |
