XChat is in Extras-devel. Its user interface has not been optimized for Maemo 5, but it's functional.

Note: Extras-devel is not intended for use by end users, nor is it safe for their use. The raw, unfinished applications in that repository may not work and furthermore, may break other software on your phone.

When is it likely to make it to 'testing'? it's a bit rough around the edges but doesn't seem to need much. Certainly functional as even I can use it.

XChat is working flawlessly on my device.
Sure, the UI is not really optimized, but I could access every function needed. It is probably already superior to a lot of programs available in testing.

For me it crashes every time I'm trying to save changes made in options-window.

Is there a way to configure this from terminal? I'd like to turn off the autospeller and change font to Droid.
