App wislist?
 

Just to stirr up some discussion (not to whine about the current application offerings) what would your application wishlist look like?

Here's some apps that I think would be useful:

1. An application launcher, maybe an applet at Home, just something that I can easily launch apps from. Right now, I have to use the stylus to access the menu to open an app

2. Apps that take advantage of the large touchscreen. Such as horizon and canola.

I don't want it to look like I'm complaining. I love my 770, and the applications people make for it (for free!)

Previously, whenever someone mentioned "wishlist" and "770" in the same sentence, I'd be there with just the one war cry: "Abiword!!!"

Recently however, I've done some re-thinking, mostly in view of how I actually use my Abiword-less NokiLLO these days, and I've come to the conclusion that I really don't need a full-fledged word processor. After all, as long as I can't print from NokiLLO, or even tranparently use any networked printer in the vicinity, there really is no point in having a WYSIWYG beast on board.

I've discovered that I can do quite a lot with Leafpad, arguably the simplest possible editor ever. It is very light though and missing quite a few useful features (word count, elaborate search-and-replace funtions and more...), so its usefullness is somewhat hampered. Sure, I could use vim -- but I don't want to :rolleyes:, so here's my wishlist. It's a short one:

1. A good writer's editor and
2. an easy to use flat-file database (the best one is still the old Psion 3x's "Data"!).

So there.

I would love to see an NX client to handle forwarding X sessions with some compression. It would be really nice to securely access my machine at home with such a thing. Right now I can do it over ssh "ssh -X user@hostname" and then run an app or two. I even did the xvkbd thing to be able to type in the forwarded window, but it is a little hacky, and not quit as satisfying as if there were a native application "hildonized" for such a purpose.

you can use compression by giving -C over ssh, ie ssh -XC user@hostname

1) I have a lot of short and long lists. Currently they are on post-it-notes all over my desk. I would love an application that would easily manage them and let me view them from the home screen.

2) Latest AbiWord (with Word and OpenOffice support)

3) A better App Launcher with support for single finger launching.

4) A note/sketch program that organizes notes better than Xournal (It would be cool to combine this with #1 if it were light and fast!)

These aren't apps but they are software:

-> Printing support
-> Bluetooth Steero Audio support

It isn't fully hildonized, but it works great. Personally, for just this one app, I like having a real menu bar.

Haven't seen this "xvkbd thing" yet. Is there a howto around somewhere?

EDIT2:No luck for me. 770 reboots after I start amarok. :(
The interesting thing is that desktop apps that integrate with full screen support per se like firefox can already be set in full screen mode. But of course an nx client would be the best thing IMO (suspend is great).

Thanks for the heads-up ! I had Scite with the 2005 OS, but since the advent of the App Manager in OS2006 I've grown complacent and managed to miss this :-)
