wireless down!
don't know how i did this, but wireless suddenly stopped working this morning. attempts to connect to my router yield the message, "Network connection error. Try again?" all other wireless devices in home are working.
"ifconfig" lists only "lo", "ifconfig -a" adds "wlan0", but it is not up. "ifup" yields "ignoring unknown interface wlan0" other info: device starts up in rd mode (need to fix that, too), although wireless was working in this situation previously. thanks in advance for any help! -steve |
reflashing the unit didn't help...
|
how about rebooting. if it still doesnt work, try unplugging your router, modem, and restarting your n770
|
i'm not sure how to reboot; is that done through flasher? the unit rebooted automatically when i reflashed it...
also, more info: the unit can see my home network, it just can't connect to it. this seems to indicate that the wifi is on. i don't know. |
i have had to go over the network connection settings, accepting everything that was there before, almost as if re-init-ing the network in order to connect to my network.
dont know what that was about, but it did the trick |
works now; here's what i did:
Code:
sudo gainroot then Code:
shutdown -r now as always when i fix things in linux, i have no idea what the actual problem was, how i caused it in the first place, or exactly what i did to fix it. i know the following things: -wlan0 wasn't listed under ifconfig; this should not be the case if the interface is up and running. i don't know how i took it down. -when trying to connect, my home network was detected and (presumably) available. if anyone can shed some light on this, it'd be great! thanks for the replies and suggestions, guys! -steve |

Re: wireless down!
I have a n800 since maybe 2 months.
I am on channel 1, using WEP, Ad-Hoc to a debian system. The Wireless has worked very well until maybe 1 week. The only thing I changed is adding some profiles and removing others. When I go in the statusbar and click my network it displays an error. Going into cli and issuing iwconfig wlan0 essid link says wlan0: device not found ifconfig -a does report wlan0 as "NOT READY" There is no network around me so it's not "blinded" by anything. After several tries of ifconfig wlan0 up and then down I finally get back my wireless: Code:
ifconfig wlan0 up I'm just very surprised it worked maybe 200 times for the last months and now it works only half of the time. Yesterday I upgraded from firmware 28 to 34 (I know it only corrects the card problem). Before or after, same problem. I was at home and there are a lot of other wireless networks. When going in the network status icon, it could only see my static profiles. Hope I'm not doing anything wrong.. Looking at bugs.maemo.org I didn't find anything related (wlan0: No such device) Next time I'll try to reload the kernel module. Which one is it? Otherwise, still very happy with the n800. Actually it's my only problem (which has a workaround) .. until now :) |
