N900 Disable Camera Record Light

Is it possible to disable the camera video record light?

When I try to record my pets, bird and dog. The light startles them and they immediately stop what they are doing and get distracted by the phone.

For now, I am even fine if it was a console hack.

Also: if there was a way to have persistant led flash for a light, instead of the white colour application.

Turn off the flash function.

Tap on the big flash symbol in the camera app.

Alternately, get some electrical tape and tape up the flash LEDs.

First, that is only for camera mode, not video mode.

Second, on a phone like this with an open os, you should not need to tape. Also I would not want anything sticky or bulky covering my camera protective sleeve.

I was hoping for more of an pass a value to an interrupt or /proc/mapping

In theory it should be possible to recompile bits of gstreamer code which deals with flash/recording LEDs assuming it's not controlled automatically via the hardware.

I have been playing with mplayer, and also when you camera is on in sample mode, it does not have the record light.

But once mencoder is added to a repo or I compile it, I should be able to do it.

I have another thread for mplayer and camera.
