There's Mediabox in the works but I'm sure how to install it nor if it's wise to install it if you value a stable device.

No, I haven't had time to install any extras-testing, or extras-devel, or compile any software myself. Studying for Final exams right now. I just remember seeing screenshots of Mediabox in development for Fremantle (Maemo 5) and posts (you can find a thread in the Multimedia forum) if you'd like to follow development.

Pycage, the author of the software, is quite active and responds to the thread often. :)

Re: Third Party Media Player

I have seen that the N900's file management can turn tricky/ faulty. It was after using the newest version of PC Suite for copying photo's. I could not find photo's outside the hidden .pictures map. But any map I saw twice now!! In USB usimg my PC, I copied all of my copied photos (placed in the root) to .pictures/my pictures (new map) and they showed up. The double maps were gone. I've had mostly no problems since. usimg an older 1.39.3 version of pc suite. That version synced well to. Sometimhes the pictures app still does not show them all!
Work around: 'diashow' them first, them I see them all... Maybe you could check the place of the files?

Re: Third Party Media Player

try this think it is the only half decent way to do it

Open player.
In top-of-screen menu select one of the choices - All Songs, All Albums, Artist, Genre, or Playlist.
You now have to start playing a song to get to the Now Playing screen - only then can you save or create a playlist.
In top-of-screen menu select "Save Playlist". That will save or create that one song in a playlist.
To add more songs go back two screens to Songs, Albums, etc.
Press and hold a song to add it to the current playlist. Repeat for more songs.
Go back to the Now Playing screen again, and do the "save playlist" process there again.
It will ask you to enter a playlist name. It will not bring up the lists you've already created, so it looks like you're creating a new one - you're not. Dumb...
Enter the exact spelling of the current playlist and save. It will ask if you want to replace current playlist with this one. Again dumb. It's the same playlist, just being updated. Ignore logic and say yes.
Now you have created or updated a playlist.
