Things that are possible with N900

Hi All. I'm new to Maemo. My N900 is coming someday from Amazon. :p

While I'm waiting, I would like to know all the wonderful things that is possible with the N900.

This thread I hope will help many new N900 users as well as people who are not sure if N900 is their dream device or not.

I want to drool at what it can do now and dream about what it should be able to do in the future and what is currently in the works. :D

it is open. so it can do anything that a linux developer is willing to take the time to write the application for.

I was going to post the same sort of question also.
And YES, we all know it's open...but for you experienced Maemo users out there, it would be great for us novice users to really see how you guys use your phone/device and what weird and wonderful things you do with it, be it for business productivity or science or leisure...

Oh I wouldn't quite promise THAT much. One morning I was missing an app that would turn my coffee maker on, but the thing lacking any kind of microcontroller, I had to get up and flip the switch.

You should have had the coffee maker power source linked via a relay to the serial port of an Asus eeebox and SSH'd into it to switch the relay over and power the coffee maker up

Perhaps there could be a control for the N900s vibrate feature, allowing us to make it fall off the table, onto a foot-switch, and thereby turn on the coffee machine ;)

I have just found a site about bluetooth controlled relays!

http://www.controlanything.com/Relay...ay_Controllers

I am now going to be hacking everything apart to add a relay control, then switch everything on and off over bluetooth from my N900! (when it arrives)

ive looked everywhere, and to the best of my knowledge, i think it could even scatch this surface and clean it up....

Yes, I know it wouldn't be too difficult to hack something crude to do the job, but I'd prefer an elegant solution.

Any one got any suggestions for good coffee makers with remote capability? =)

EDIT: Actually, that bluetooth relay is quite tempting. At least if it can be paired & locked to work with one device only. I wouldn't want my a fire to break out, because someone happened to find it and thought a good idea to play around with the thing. Plus I need a new machine anyway, this one is old and its coffee is starting to develop a taste...
