email setup problems (Hotmail and Blueyonder)

Hi all,

I'm having trouble setting up access to my email accounts from my n900.

I have a hotmail.co.uk address and a blueyonder.co.uk address. I've read all the available guides etc and followed the instructions - I've plenty of experience entering email settings etc but nothing seems to work.

Could someone describe the process for me? I really want to be able to get my emails on the move!

Any help appreciated, Stu.

Did you look at N900 email options

http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_Email_Options

it would also be good for you to explain what option you are trying to use, the steps you have taken, as well as what error messages you are getting.

Best option for Hotmail is using Nokia Messaging.

Hi,

my BY error message: Unable to connect to pop3.blueyonder.co.uk. Server name or port number may be incorrect.

When I try to set up nokia messaging, it does not send the text.

When I set up hotmail as a pop3 service, I get a Unable to connect due to username/password problem. Obviously I've checked and re-checked them and they are correct.

Bah !

You dont set up nokia messaging from the web site. Its already on your phone. All you put in is your hotmail emal address and password and its does the rest.

see the user manual here.http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...er+manual+link

Just a quick update to say I managed to sort my problems!

Using Nokia Messaging worked for hotmail - great, thx.

On my blueyonder account I decided to set it up "Manually", so didn't select blueyonder from the list. Used other, called it test, entered my details manually and bish bosh - we have email...

Thanks guys, Stu.

Incidentally, I did all this whilst watching Frost/Nixon and DLing from maemo select. How's that for a wow factor :)

I was having the devil of a time setting up SMTP for blueyonder - fine on the wifi, nothing sending when I was out of the house on the O2 network.

Someone passed on this settings info to me, which I'll post here in case it's useful to anybody else:

Username: name.name@blueyonder.co.uk
Password: Your password
Outgoing Server (SMTP): smtp.virginmedia.com (yes, the virginmedia.com smtp server!)
Secure authentication for smtp server: Login - Using email address and password
Secure connection for smtp: SSL port 465

Just to make this clear: So the settings you posted work and fixed the problem for you?

Re: email setup problems (Hotmail and Blueyonder)

Yes, absolutely.

I'm still using blueyonder's pop3 server (which I hadn't had any trouble with anyway) but virginmedia's smtp server, which now means I can send email when I'm out and about.
