If Ubuntu doesn't pick up the modem automatically (I read somewhere on here that someone had that kind of luck!) then maybe the procedure I used under Centos would work:

On ubuntu, under network manager you should have a new Mobile Broadband choice for your carrier. Works for me. |

Works but you cannot sync your calendar and other things like you do with the N95...

Re: Has anyone tried nokia n900 via USB tethering for Ubuntu 9.10 or Windows XP?
Hey guys!
One probably dumb question: When I select the modem in ubuntu, what do I have to enter as number to dial and username / password? I'm not quite sure... Because the N900 is already connected to the internet, so it doesn't have to dial anything. Do I simply have to select my carrier out of the list? Or does it actually care what I enter there? Thank you! |

See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothDialup believe it or not... should have settings for most carriers
Edit... maybe not. Lemme google that some more ;) dial string is *99# user/pass is blank... should work for TMobile, maybe for most GSM carriers? |
