Restart app for Maemo
Hey all,
I am thinking a good app to make would be one that would add a restart option to menu that appears when you hit the power button. Right now it is only shut down. I doubt this is something Nokia will do for the main distro (although I may be wrong) so a nice simple app may work well. I am not at all versed in coding (well not since some java back in High School, which is not supported anyway), but I am going to try to make this in python if I can over the next few weeks (I am sure someone who knows how to develop could do it in a couple hours). The coding should be very simple, just getting the actual SDK to do what I am looking for will likely be more of an issue. Any tips would be appreciated. |
Re: Restart app for Maemo
This is a much needed add on. I had an program on my touch pro 2 to do soft resets which was a life saver cause on the touch pro 2 you have to remove the battery cover to do so. And winmo phone is proned to needing soft resets alot ;)

Re: Restart app for Maemo
In my n810, I wrote script restart.sh and created a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/hildon and linked them with Exec=/location/of/restart.sh. Icon appears in the menu and when clicked does the job for me. However, I'm not sure in n900 as it doesn't have menu like in n810.

Edit /etc/systemui/systemui.xml and remove the "<!--" and "-->" lines. Reboot, and you'll get a reboot option there (along with some others). |
Re: Restart app for Maemo
Damn, I needed an excuse to write a program and get me learning to code, now that is gone.
Oh well, now to look for something else. Thanks through. |

Warning: rebooting your device 17 times without shutting it down cleanly may cause it to brick!

Re: Restart app for Maemo
Does the problem of rebooting your N900 17 times without shutting it down still make it a brick?
I wanted to add the reboot button to the dropdown menu, but now I don't know if it its safe. Any ideas? Quote:
