I need advice on my 770
I bought my 770 about 10 months ago, way before the 2006OS came out. Back then the only way to increase performance was to create swap space on an rs-mmc card. You had to flash the device and do some stuff to it (I don't remember every thing) and when you where done you could make some swap space to make the 770 run smother. It was real cool then but became pointless once the 2006OS came out.
Well recently part of the screen on my 770 no longer recognizes the stylist unless I press real hard. I want to send it in for repairs. The warranty is still good, but I'm not sure if I violated it when I made that swap space. I just read the warranty and I does not seem like I have. It's obvious that I did something to the device because green text appears when it boots up. I have two questions: 1. Did I violate my warranty? 2. Can I reverse the flash thing I did so that the green text no longer appears? Thanks for any help I get. |
Re: I need advice on my 770
Before you send it back for warranty repair, just go to Nokia's support website and install the latest OS (do your backup first). You will then have the latest OS with built-in swap. |

- edit: just disabled rd mode and no more green text, thanks. @smackpotato They gave you a brand new one? Awesome. My case (on the bottom, the part that sticks out where you plug in the power, usb, and headphones) is cracked a little just from taking the cover on and off (go figure) so it would be great to get a new one. |
Re: I need advice on my 770
Chances are that you could get away with it by disabling the R&D mode but...
Enabling the R&D mode is associated with some sort of risk of damaging your device and is not endorsed by Nokia (see the scary disclaimer at http://maemo.org/maemowiki/HowDoiBecomeRoot ). No doubt, you can switch off the R&D mode easily but its traces would still be there giving away that you were playing with fire. If I sent back my 770 for warranty repair then I would avoid giving them the slightest chance to refuse the free repair, and in your case this means reflashing with a fresh official image. You wouldn't want to send it in anyway with your data on, so do a backup and flash to be on the safe side. Again, I may be overcautious... |
my 770 Application manager does not work!
Hi
Everytime I goto the Application manager it shows 'updating' then a massage come to the screen 'oparation failed'. If I goto see the option 'installed software' it does not show anything I installed before. Same as the other options, so now I can install new software but can not remove them from my installed list. With that problem, I have tried to reset the whole OS(2.0) 06, but here is another problem I found. I can connect my 770 with PC but when I goto reset the OS, it can not detect with the PC. Please anyone can help me, any suggests. Thnx.. |
