A Lemon?
Hey all, may i start by saying thanks for the insight and iformation you guys are providing here, ive found a few answeres here already. Thanks.!
But, my question is, is the N900 an expensive lemon? ive had mine for about 2 weeks, and it really is a good bit of kit. i am really impressed with it. but its completely let down at the mo by the fact a lot of it doesnt work (pc-suite for a start, and OVI.) and apps are a bit thin on the ground. This, i hope will be corrected soon, but then i see that Maemo6 is on the way in 2010, so will by shiny new N900 be outdated and forgotten about before the contract im on is up??? im completely inept when you guys talk about Xterminal etc... ive only ever had one experiance with linux when i installed ubuntu on a laptop, to then re-format it to XP straight after as i had no idea what was going on LOL  . is it possible for Maemo6 to run on the N900 once its released? how simple would it be for someone (read : developer) to get an app they wrote for maemo6, and then modify it to run on 5? i just hope my decision of a N900 over Iphone / HTC's was a wise one. (always liked Nokias, Had N80, N73, N95, N95 8GB) Please dont stone me to death LOL! Ross. |

Still, I understand what you mean. I'm hoping Nokia will soon complete the minor features I miss, too. Can you tell us what you need to do with PC Suite? Maybe there's an alternative. |
Re: A Lemon?
Not as far as I am concerned and I have not even got it yet!!
Remember the N95 when that 1st came out. Shite battery life, woeful app choice, glitchy UI etc . Patience is a virtue when you are using this kind of device at this stage in its development... N900 over Iphone / HTC? Without a doubt (yes I am biased), and thats just from my current reading and other people's experience of the iPhone. HTC (if you are refering to Android ) is a little closer to the but still leaves a lot to be desired IMO |

Buy A Lemon:
To purchase a vehicle that constantly gives problems or stops running after you drive it away. OK, maybe not quite right, but the jist of buying somthing only to find out afterwards it not a go-er :) just some functionality in PC-Suite would be nice, organise messages, drag and drop music, update OVI maps. i know some of this can be done manually, by connecting in mass storage mode, would just be easier whats all. |

770: Maemo 1.1-2.2 (and unstable up to 4.0) N800: Maemo 3.0-4.1 N900: Maemo 5.0-??? If they go along what they did before, Maemo 6 should work, but as for all the new features, it might be like the short-lived N810 (Maemo 4.0-4.1)... i have no idea. just my take on it. |

I do however have an XDA iiS... and thats had every flavour of Windows mobile on if from WM2003 to having WM6.5 on it now... i would still be using it if it werent for the outdated hardware. I really hope the community sticks with the N900, and keep the software going and up to date with whatevers about at the time |
