LED stopped working after flash
I reflashed my N900 last night and now the LED doesn't work. I did some searching and found how to test it manually in this thread http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36501 but on my device the lp5523:x files do not exist in the /sys/class/leds/ directory. Any ideas on how to fix it? Should I try flashing again?

Might be the wrong part of your post to comment on, but if you don't mind me asking, what was the need for the reflash in the first place?

Re: LED stopped working after flash
Well, it wont help me solve it in any way, as I literally dont really have a clue. to be honest it was more of a general query as to what you'd experienced. However, maybe your reasoning would help. Did the last thing you tinkered with effect your LED in any way? Was it a program that linked in with any function that would effect the LED?
And if you knew it would be the first post, why not mention what did cause the reflash? Instead of wait for someone, me in this case, to ask, and for you to reply like that? Is this one of those forums that you cant really ask questions on because people get unnecessarily uppity about stuff? |

Sorry for being rude. That was uncalled for. I just can't count the number of times I've seen the "you shouldn't have done it in the first place" response as people's actual answer to the problem. It drives me nuts. |

Now this may be miles off, but if your missing a single file, then you'd think that a flash would of course rest the file system, and it would appear. If you've narrowed your problem down to that one file missing, is it possible for someone to send you it? Im familiar with windows mob, in that I would be able to copy a file from my structure, give it to someone for them to *** to their phone, is it possible with maemo? And if so, it's a case of asking about for someone to PM you the file to see if it makes the difference. No idea if that is any help at all, or if im just wasting your time talking nonsense!! |
Re: LED stopped working after flash
As far as I know those files are created by the kernel module for that particular hardware, so I don't think you can just copy them over. I see a leds_lp5523 module loaded when I run lsmod and nothing shows up in dmesg when I rmmod/insmod it.
Then again, I would consider myself a noob when it comes to linux kernel stuff so chances are I'm completely wrong. |
Re: LED stopped working after flash
Then my friend, I am as in the dark as you are.
Very odd that a reflash hasn't seemed to help. Certainly wont hurt to attempt another. I'm unsure here, but does Maemo give you the option to do either a soft reset, and also a full, back to factory stock OS reset? I know with windows I have the option for either, the latter been what I would generally do with major issues, like this for instance. |
Re: LED stopped working after flash
When I got my N900, the LED wasn't working at all. And some time after, the backlight of the keyboard stopped working.
So I decided to flash the firmware. With absolutely no effect. I was thinking to send my N900 to Nokia Care, and on the website of nokia care I saw an advice "First thing to do when there is a problem is to remove the battery". That's what I did. And LED and backlight were OK just with a battery removal ! Everything's fine now. |
