N900 Key Mapping?

I am slowly warming to my n900 and hope that it will give me as many years (yep I'm that kind of tech owner) of versatile use as my Treo 650 did (bought the treo three months after it came out, and replaced it last week with an n900). That said, one of the things that was really excellent on the treo was the ability to customize the keypads responses. For example, (using n900 layout for simplicity) I would be able to simply tap the Q key twice quickly in order to get the 1 etc. In addition, a long key press capitalized a letter. Does anyone know of a way/program to do so on the n900 as well? Would this be possible through xconf ?

Is this more or less what you mean?

Re: N900 Key Mapping?

I built xbindkeys for N900/Maemo 5. It's similar to what you say:
http://www.nongnu.org/xbindkeys/xbindkeys.html

I don't know if it ever made it thru the builder and it's to annoying to go check these things for the billionth time, so if it's not there, feel free to grab it from my repo:

Code:

deb http://www.freemoe.org/users/jebba unstable main
I also modified a couple lines in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/nokia_vndr/rx-51 to map the Sterling (british pound) and Euro symbol to pipe and tab. Perhaps something similar will be of use to you:

Code:

--- rx-51.orig  2009-10-07 07:39:13.000000000 -0600
+++ rx-51      2009-12-31 16:00:22.000000000 -0700

Re: N900 Key Mapping?

You both responded with precisely with what I was looking for. Now, if I could only find some way to make setting/adjusting a background image on the n900 as simple and customizable as on my PSP. So far, rotating an image and saving it as a new image (and then hitting make background) has the background in the original orientation. The PSP method is a bit better wherein you pick an image, zoom/rotate/move the image on the psp screen and then hit set, and the background image is essentially what you were looking at prior.

I filed a bug about that:

If you vote for it, it becomes a CONFIRMED bug.
