*That* phone and the impact on the N800
I've just watched the iPhone (copyright pending!) presentation given by Jobs via the Apple website. Nice.
What impressed me the most is that here is a company that has actually paid attention to the design of the applications on the device, including the email client. A nice difference from a certain Finnish company I could mention. As far as I can see the email client on the N800 is as bad as the one on the N770 I currently use. Given the amount of discussion on this forum and others about how appalling the email client is, the failure to make significant (or any) improvements is a real let-down. I'm hoping that Apple's entrance into this market will prompt Nokia and others to start taking email client design for mobile devices seriously. |

WillS,
Nokia are working on "Modest" a new email client based on Philip Van Hoof's tinymail work. A good foundation though doesn't necessarily mean a good UI. In the meantime, Sylpheed is usable, if not fully optimised yet. Cheers, Andrew |

There are Tinymail-on-Maemo demonstrations here (in QuickTime Movie format with god-awful music accompaniment).
I don't use email on the 770/N800 so can't really comment how it compares to the standard client. |
