N900 on 3G at 850mhz ?
Hello everyone.
I have wanted a N900 since it was announce but my only carrier in the country have 3G on the 850 mhz band. So my question is: Do you think nokia is gonna take a 850 maemo phone soon and I should wait, or should buy the N900 now and use it on the GSM network only? Thanks |
Re: N900 on 3G at 850mhz ?
Exactly the same problem here. Anyone who can update us on the subject?

@jpvillalobos, jtcr17
Do you live in Mexico? |
Re: N900 on 3G at 850mhz ?
Nope.. I live in Costa Rica.
I think the other memeber "jtcr17" might live in Costa Rica as well.. because of the "cr" in his nick name. |
Re: N900 on 3G at 850mhz ?
I apologize, I am not familiar with your carrier. Who might it be?

Re: N900 on 3G at 850mhz ?
All right, to be proactive:
My carrier does not currently support either of the 3G frequencies used by the N900. I have not even received my N900, but will do so later today (coincidentally). What I have been doing for my N800 is using a pocket, battery powered router: http://www.amazon.com/Cradlepoint-PH...5305409&sr=8-2 You just plug in a compatible 3G USB modem (mine is the ZTE MF626) and you use the router via WiFi. It is very fast. And it has the added bonus of allowing you to share your bandwidth with others if you want to. A list of compatible 3G modems can be found here: http://www.cradlepoint.com/products/...l-wifi-hotspot Look under supported devices. |

Hey Raph, thanks for being proactive.
It sounds like an option to be considered. Following is an email I've got from Nokia customer care a couple of days ago. (For information purposes) : [THREAD ID:1-4W5GR02] Hi Juan Pablo, Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center. This is in response to your email regarding your inquiry on N900, I would like to inform you that device availability is based on many things. This includes existing Nokia device firmware version, country, and operator. It may be due to one of these variables that your Nokia device isn't eligible for updates yet. Please note that your mobile service provider, operator, or carrier may not have approved the latest Nokia device firmware for your device. Nokia produces many different variants of each product (for different countries and languages) and not all variants have the latest firmware. It is our priority to update all variants as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any delay this would have caused you. N900 with 850 Band may become available at a later date. You can check on our website at www.nokiausa.com for updates and latest releases. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us again. To ensure proper handling of your case, kindly continue using the current subject line. Thank you very much for your email. Kind regards, Penelope S. Re: N900 on 3G at 850mhz ?
@matristain:
COFETEL auctioned the 1700Mhz frequency last November. As you may imagine, TELMEX wants it, which means, they will get it. If you remember, the N900 works in that frequency for 3G. So, we are set as soon as TELMEX implements it. In the meantime, please refer to my previous post. That solution works right now. As to GSM, we have it right now. The N900 is fully compatible with our local TelCel frequencies. It is just the 3G that has to be bridged in the manner I described. Coincidentally, a friend of mine is on his way right now to visit me and deliver my N900. I will finally get it in less than an hour. Bought several accessories for it already. I will be glad to keep you posted on any developments. @jpvillalobos: Thank you for the information. I have to say that I asked Nokia in Mexico and they are not going to sell this device here. So, your only bet is to acquire it elsewhere and import it. |
