Skype to Moscow from California

I was just talking to someone in Moscow from my N900 in an Skype-to-Skype call, a long conversation. Sometimes her voice was dropping out completely or becoming garbled. Fortunately, she was talking a lot so she didn't particularly notice -- she said she was hearing everything I said -- so the problem was only her voice coming to me, it appears.

So, any tips for improving call reception for this? I don't think I was running anything at the same time.

It was pretty great to have Skype on the N900 running so well, as I moved around the house, went downstairs and outside while talking to Moscow.

Maybe you just had variable mobile signal => package dropping for VoIP => signal breaks. Because you were moving around. Not much you can do to boost phone signal except for the generic stuff (avoid enclosed spaces, metal enclosures etc)

Or maybe WiFi didn't have good reception all the time. Depends what were you running.

maybe her upload bandwidth was the problem. maybe it was your download bandwidth was being used by someone else on the wifi network if u were using wifi.

Use landline. You can get a calling card that lets you talk to Moscow for as low as $0.03..$0.07 a minute.
