n770 or n800?

Hey,

I have the option to buy the 770 for $225 or the 880 for $399.
I will use the device mainly to surf the web and as remote controle for the olive music server. I haven't touched either of them. Can anybody give me advice on which tablet is best for my needs?

Thanx!

Of course N800 is better for everything. Only if you insist having integrated hard cover you might want 770. If Nokia fails to make os upgrade to 770 (let's hope not!) most activity around it will soon be dead.

Agreed. Treat the 770 as unstable and obsolete - although I haven't seen many reports about the 800's stability yet.

Stability: pretty good. I usually have at least 2 browser windows open, sometimes more (usually reader.google.com & this site), and sometimes another app like xterm, or application manager, and I have had not one crash all week. I use it all day long every weekday and 3 nights a week for taking notes in class. Seems much more stable than 770 for my use. Mplayer does crash on a 250 MB avi, but other than that it has been smooth sailing. BT and wifi also are more stable.

Re: n770 or n800?

It is my understanding from Ari's blog that the 770 will continue to be sold this year. Why would any one buy a 770 over the N800? To save $40? NOT. I don't understand why Nokia is still selling 770s unless they are trying to clear out old inventory.

I feel sorry for the people who buy new 770s this year unknowingly they get a buggy OS with no future SUPPORTED updates from Nokia.

At $225 the 770 IS a great buy.

But if you have got the $400 then go for the N800 as it just feels so much better when using it.

tabletfan: Tosh.

The 770 will continue to be sold and supported with updates. This has been made clear by Ari from the initial launch of the N800 - the only thing that has changed since is that Nokia are now reconsidering the porting of OS2007 to the 770.

The 770 will be sold significantly cheaper than the N800, so you have a choice - buy the 770 (the OP can get it for $225) or spend $175 more and buy the N800. Two different price points, two different products, both supported going forward.

I doubt the $225 is a new price. But if it is. Wow!

Current pricing in the UK (which I assume will change with a bigger drop on the 770 at some point):

N800 £269 (but you can also find it for £279 on a different page on the Nokia site!)

770 £245 (or £355 with Nav kit).

If you want it for web surfing,.. I'd go with the N800 due to flash 7 and Opera8.5. The 800 is faster and has more ram options. You can't even view the Nokia website for the 800 without flash 7.

Significantly cheaper? I don't think so:
