1.2009.44-1 wont fit.

Im trying to upgrade my phone, but i cant even get to the installation process, because the 1.2009.44-1 upgrade wont fit on the damn phone.
roughly translated it tells me "Not enough memory in target location".

What should I do?

reboot your phone

Have you installed any -testing or -devel apps? Some of them are not ready for normal use. Therefore they might take too much space on the root filesystem thus disabling update possibility.

If you go to x-terminal and type in command "df" you can see how much rootfs space you have available. 20000 or more is needed.

you should remove the testing and devel applications you have installed, eventhough you were specifically warned about this. The warning goes that only enable devel and testing if you know what you're doing. This kinda proves that you do not know what you're doing. either way, remove applications that are not optified and you're golden. Applications from unofficial repositories might also be worth a look. Also disabling all other repositories except the nokia ones might help.

I apologize for my whining if you have not enabled testing or devel or happen to know what you're doing. :)

If that doesn't free up enough space then disable the extras-devel and extras-testing repositories until after you've updated. This will free up the space used to cache the application info for these repositories.

If you still don't have enough space then you need to look into what apps you've installed from extras-devel and start removing those that aren't optified.

What about of available space is the standard? Ive now got 27Mb (enough for this update) however when the big update comes along wont a large amount of space be required on rootfs.

Thanks, man! I disabled all extras- repositories and got 30Mb instead of 13Mb. Downloading the update now.

One of the changes in this firmware release was increasing the compression setting for firmware updates, so presumably this will reduce the amount of space required for the PR1.1 update.

Yeah but unless PR 1.1 is only slightly larger than this update it wont fit? Was just wondering what the 'normal' empty space of rootfs is?

Your whining is within accepted parameters.:D
I didnt know what I was doing, and i just wanted more useless apps on my device.
I removed the devel repo and removed some unopitfied apps.
This freed up enough space to upgrade the OS:)
