Will Google Products be Ported into Maemo for N900?

Anyone know of any links where I can find out what Google tools are being ported to Maemo 5 for the N900?

Google voice search and text type would be great!

Officially by Google? Probably not unless Maemo becomes a bigger platform. Right now, it's to small to justify the money and time Google would have to spend to get whatever amount of maemo users to use more of their services.

Unofficially, yes. For example, there's someone working on a Google Latitude app on this forum.

Google Voice works unofficially. Maps, Docs, Mail, etc all work through web browser. What we are all waiting for is a Dalvik VM so we can run android apps.

Just to clarify,

'Dalvik is the virtual machine which runs the Java platform on Android mobile devices.' -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_virtual_machine

So Google has to 'release' or 'license Dalvik VM'?

I'd be surprised if google actually invested in porting their apps to a platform competing with their android

Err.. iPhone? Symbian?

Google doesn't care about Android, Chrome, etc.. those are just projects to get more people into using Google services. The more people that use Google's services, the more data they have and behavioral patterns they can sell.

That's also why alot of their services are free, because their profit doesn't come from charging you for those services, but what they get from you using those services are more valuable. Millions, perhaps billions of people use gmail, most don't realize that Google has a supercomputer that goes through their communication to others, and others communication to them to:

a) improve algorithms (For example, Google Voice and Google 411 have contributed to other projects, for example the Nexus One)
b) to identify patterns and sell that to companies
c) to fine tune the advertisements to you

In particular to a), that then goes back into improving software, making it more likely a user will use Google's service rather than say Microsoft. Thus perpuating the cycle.

@MrGrim, they already have native solutions for Symbian/WinMo/iPhone. As Laughing Man said, I also believe the only obstacle is the userbase of Maemo platform.

If that's the case then maybe there is a good chance Google will consider porting some stuff into Maemo...???

I'm aware of how Google makes profit. They want to know what we do every day so they can fine tune their marketing services (their core business). I don't mind them seeing what I do everyday for the cost of their free services. If I really want to keep something private, I'll never use the internet or any network for that matter. But back to the subject issue, I hope they allow/port their tools so we (the Maemo & Linux community) can use their tools like we do on our desktops.

Once again, I appreciate the information and insight from everyone. The linux community rocks!:D
