Mgutenberg?
 

Hi, I saw a video (at http://nokiaexperts.com/access-ovi-s...d-angry-birds/) with a reference to MGutenberg, an ebook reader for the N900 that can download books from Project Gutenberg and even works in portrait mode.

Google led me to this page http://my-maemo.com/software/applica...6&fldAuto=1118 , which seems to indicate that the application is available in extras, but I don't see it.

Any suggestions?

I believe its extras-devel - really a very cool app. Can search for say Shakespeare and download his plays etc.

Confirmed; it's in extras-devel. That is fortunate because there is a temporary problem with FBreader's similar net search ability.,

I've been trying it out, quite useful.

The gutenberg integration is good, the actual ereading UI is alright, but IMO not as good as FBReader (though it is nice that kinetic scrolling is present).

Would be nice to have an option for Mgutenberg to use FBReader as the actual reader for the downloaded gutenberg books.

Anyone else getting no results from gutenberg project search no mater what you search for? Is the app broken (it hasn't been changed since january) or is it just my N900 that is weird?

Mgutenberg wasn't working for me recently either.

It's still not working. Maybe Project Gutenberg's servers has changed?

Probably this problem would be an easy fix for someone.

In the meantime here is some info.

http://m.gutenberg.org/ is a pretty good site where you can find books for free you can read on the N900. Many formats are supported there and work with FBReader, generally considered the best reader for the N900. One of the best is the .epub format, available from the gutenberg.org site.
