Is it better to update from N900 or from Nokia update manager

I am confusing which way is better to update my n900 device. is it better to update from the device itself over wifi or better to plugin usb to PC and update from Nokia software updater?

what is the difference?

thank you

From my personnal experience, don't update through NSU since I experienced the same problem as the others... It will stop at 1 second left or if you managed to install it, it will flash your phone ( which mean it will delete all the apps you had ).

Doing OTA upgrades it and leaves all the applications intact.

I live in Montreal, Canada and I am still waiting for the update OTA, although I see it the update in the Application manager but can't update it because it asks me to use NSU...

I was wondering even if it's available in the Application Manager, should I just wait for the "exclamation point in the status area" ?

That indicates that one of the installed apps is causing a conflict which prevents the update from installing. The ones I've seen mentioned elsewhere as causing the problem are ioquake3 and OpenArena, but there may be others.

None of those 2 are installed, I guess I'll unsinstall more apps..

I must of lucked out. Found it in updates and installed while eating lunch on the restaurants wifi and all apps and settings appear intact. Smooth process on N900.

You could try running (as root) from X Terminal:
Code:

apt-get remove libqt4-phonon
That's the library that seems to be causing most of the issues.

I just checked a bit and I think I know the problem... It's the theme "maemo-org"

it cannot be uninstalled... jeez... this is gonna suck..

It worked for me =) It's updating!

Although, the Maemo-org theme can't be unsinstalled but it seems that there's a solution but I'll try it after the update : http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ight=maemo-org
