[sandbox] Internet connection on off automatic

I would love to see a function where you can set your n900 to internet when needed and when for example the email is loaded the internet connection is turned back off automatically.

This function is allready be done by the nokia n96, n97 with symbian.

You can set to get the email automatically and the phone will turn off the internet when its ready.

This will make a huge difference in standby time for the phone! Now when the n900 needs internet it puts it on and let it stays on until manually shut down. this drains the battery insane.

+1

An app that connected to the internet every 1 or 2 hours, updated your mail and widgets and disconnected again, that would be epic.

internet connection on demand and automatic disconnect

My "old" Symbian phone is only online, when an application requests the connection. After the application completes the task, the internet connection is closed automatically. A good example is the mail client -> internet connection is only needed during synchronization.
WHY?: To save battery life.

I'm surprised such functionality isn't included out of the box. While I appreciate the always on idea it seems like a waste of battery power leaving your phone standby online all the time when u just need periodic updates from mail, weather, facebook, apnews etc. Especially for those that do not use IM.......
