offline google maps for maemo?

hi,

google maps seems working with geolocation extension. do we have any offline google maps tools here?

if no, i got an idea how to implement. need a developer help!

2 components.
1. maps downloader
a util can specify area to replicate from google maps with the same directory arrangement of all map title for the area/level of interest
2. maps enabler. google maps running on maemo to download all title is via http. a mini webserver enabled for this component and 'direct' all google maps title request to this localhost webserver. redirection can be done by amendment of /etc/hosts so it will refer to localhost.

i dont really need maps in my location but i need a offline maps when travel which require no more int'l data roaming charge then.

thanks

I don't think maemo-mapper is available for the N900 though. :(

you can use the default ovi maps offline:

if you don't want to use the nokia program on your pc, download the maps directly and transfer it via mass-storage-mode:

Well, I'm using it right now. I believe it's in extras-testing. Alpha but it works.
