Geotagging

Is there a way to tag photos with GPS coordinates only and not the other stuff that requires an internet connection? It's quite irritating when the camera application keeps nagging for a connection.

That happens probably because you have assisted GPS activated, so that camera app keep asking for a connection. Remember that actually obtaining a gps lock without network takes ages.

No, that's not it. I'm using a bluetooth gps receiver (Nokia LD-4W) and the camera application, atleast in my phone, keeps nagging for a connection each time it's activated after being in standby.

Nonetheless, it is very disappointing that Nokia chose to not support simple tagging of photos with longitude and latitude in addition or insead of city and street information.

Nokia may try to justify that decision because it also officially requires a network connection for GPS to work. That is also a mistake, in my opinion.

Strange, you don't have the location method set to AGPS still do you (even though it won't work with the BT GPS I know)? If that's the cause, this is a bug.

I had a second look in Settings -> Location and it turned out that I had Network positioning enabled ( that is assisted GPS, I guess). When I turned it off the camera application stopped nagging about a internet connection, that was a relief.

But shouldn't Network positioning have been greyed out when I selected a bluetooth gps device instead of the internal?

indeed, sounds like a bug, please submit one if it doesn't already exist :)

pretty sure the assist works both for internal and external gps

Even if so, shouldn't N900 be smart enough not to require an internet connection if the bluetooth gps receiver already provides a Fine accuracy?

That's unlikely, unless the onboard supl system knows how to communicate with lots of different types of BT GPSes. I don't think there's a standard form for supl data to be provided to them, but do correct me if I'm wrong.

It would be nice if this were the case though, I'd suggest just setting the location applet in the Control Panel to not use assistance and then you should be ok.
