Best apps/demos to make iPhone owners weep?
Hi all,
I have been looking for a new phone for a while now, I have a n95 and quite like it but want something that has good internet browsing and a decent qwerty keyboard for emails as I want to ditch my blackberry (I use both, not found a phone that will do both well). I was sucked in by the cult of Engadget and its massive bias toward the droid/Milestone/Android (I really dislike the iPhone). I was going to wait until the milestone is in the shops so I could have a play. In the last couple of days I have found the n900 and can't believe I have missed this great piece of kit. Had a play with one today and I really like the physical aspects, it certainly seems to fit the bill (I was already sold on the software, Linux on a phone - Awesome!). I am quite technical; know my way around a CLI and usually RTFM :) I use windows for desktops and Linux for servers (usually CentOS) but I guess a crash course in Debian is now on the cards. I can see the possibilities of the hardware, not too bothered if I am at the cutting edge of the software. Am looking forward to customising the phone and loading up some apps the other guys would only dream of having. Anyway, a couple of guys in the office have iPhones. We work with a lot of networking kit (Cisco, Juniper, riverbed etc) as well as doing sysadminy stuff. I have been giving them hassle about their choice of phone and would like to make them regret it What apps and/or demos do you think I should load to show them the error of their ways? I am getting the phone in a week or so. I was thinking for a start: SSHD VNC/Remote desktop Some chat app, pidgin maybe? Easy Debian Has anyone loaded the Nessus client? Start 6 or 8 apps and show the multitasking (although I am not that impressed with that) ??? Really looking forward to getting the phone, not been looking forward this much to getting a piece of tech for years!! |

Haha, i would just turn around and show them that you can play youtube videos...from the site, and you can multi task. :P (Without jailbreaking blah blah.)
I think them two features alone are a massive win. |

You cannot swap the battery in the iphone as it is internal. Once it becomes waste you must send it to service repair in order to get a new one.

I usually carry a charged up spare battery in my briefcase, some days I am on the phone a lot!

I would just show them the skype integration. it's awesome. Also, if you guys work in IT, just grap the nmap utility and scan yojur network from the phone. :)

1) gPodder - download mp4 mp3 from any rss feed or the web and play it.
2) SSH tunnel and rDesktop or VNC 3) Camera - take HD video or descent photos and upload them to flicker or whatever. 4) skype integration - although iPhone owners don't get it. but $2.50 per month = unlimited Wifi enabled calls. |
