Can I reflash my N900 in Windows 7 64-bit using NSU ?
Hey all ... Well due to a program issue mentioned here which keeps locking my phone , I think I would have to re-flash my N900 :(
Anyways, is it possible to use NSU to do a reflash, or do I hav to use the Flasher program mentioned in the wiki ? Also, can the reflashing be done from Windows 7 64 bit ?? I'm asking this because according to the wiki and searching through the forum, there seems to be compatibility issues with Windows 7 64 bit as far as reflashing is concerned .. :( |
Re: Can I reflash my N900 in Windows 7 64-bit using NSU ?
Just today I flashed my friend's N900 using the Maemo flasher tool (not NSU). However, I couldn't get it to work on my Win 7 64 bit laptop so I had to dust off my old XP laptop and it worked great.

I've reflashed my N900 and I've got Windows 7 64bit.
I believe the latest version of NSU supports Windows 7, if not I believe setting the NSU installer in compatibility mode for Windows Vista works fine, thats what I did. |

No, I know NSU works for firmware updating purposes (I have used it to update my N900 to the latest firmware). But how can I use it to reflash an N900 ? That is, not update, but re-install a firmware ..

thanx denis, but I've already looked over there .. the wiki only says that NSU can be used for updating the firmware .. it does not say, nor gives instructions for reflashing using the NSU ..

Re: Can I reflash my N900 in Windows 7 64-bit using NSU ?
The flasher didn't work when I tried it on my Win 7 64bit system, so I started an XP virtual machine in VMware and that worked. You can also try using XP Mode from Microsoft instead of VMware (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir.../download.aspx)
You have to download the flasher from here: http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-d....5_2.5.2.2.exe And the firmware from here: http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php (I used RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin) Here are the instructions for flashing from the command line: * Open the Command Prompt by going to Start then Run (or Windows Logo key + R) and type cmd then press Enter. * Change directory to the flasher's program path (TIP: Use the TAB key to auto-complete the commands and file-names) Code:
cd "%ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5" Code:
flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R * Connect the USB cable while hold 'u' key on the N900 (details on the wiki) * Use the interface in VMware to transfer the newly connected USB device to the virtual machine * The update will take about 3 minutes after which the N900 will reboot and display the Welcome screen with Regional settings. If that doesn't completely solve your problem then you might want to clear the whole internal memory of the device, but that will mean losing all your contacts, settings and files, so it will be just like a new device bought from the store. Instructions for that are here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_t...MC_in_the_N900 |
Re: Can I reflash my N900 in Windows 7 64-bit using NSU ?
I have a Win7 64 desktop and a Win7 32 laptop. I followed the same instructions on both (to the letter) including re-boot and F8 to allow unsigned drivers.
The process "looked" to be working but on the Win7 64 machine but it never recognised the N900 when plugging the USB in. So it did not cause any problems but just did not work :( |
