N900 destroyed my MMC
Hi,
My N900 has been having more and more regular problems of becoming non-responsive, possibly related to usb charging? but now it's even worse, it's wiped my external 16Gb mmc card. I woke up this morning with my alarm at 7am, but the normal N900 alarm tone I had previously set didn't sound, I just heard an awkward beep. I felt the device and it was *really* hot (I charge overnight daily as I have done ever since I bought the N900 last month). - Tried to power off by holding the powerbutton but it was non-responsive (still beeping with the alarm call). - unplugged the power cord: no change - the power light was still pulsing orange - had to rip out the battery without shutting down (yes bad) - have been forced to do this 2 times since owning the N900. - allowed the device to cool down, and replaced battery and rebooted. On restart I noticed that a few desktop widgets had disabled themselves, and also that my MMC card appeared empty. Only to be replaced with /media/mmc1/info directory containied md5sum, and .list files for many of the applications I have installed. Perhaps this was there before I don't know, just never noticed maybe. Panic! All my data lost! /media/mmc1/images , docs, data, media all gone, no backup :-( was so new was just in the process of downloading stuff directly onto it. I shutdown gracefully, and removed and resocketed the external 16gb MMC, and rebooted... still nothing. All data gone. Running sfdisk -l showed a possible issue. Disk /dev/mmcblk1: 243200 cylinders, 4 heads, 16 sectors/track Warning: The partition table looks like it was made for C/H/S=*/221/20 (instead of 243200/4/16). For thsi listing I'll assume that geometry /dev/mmcblk1p1 1+ 3521- 3520- 7778304 b W95 FAT32 start: (c,h,s) expected (1,188,13) found (0,130,3) end: (c,h,s) expected (1023,220,20) found (968,220,20) I've now run dd to backup the image and hopefuly try to recover. Anyone got any other suggestions or experienced this? Can I get a logfile from somewhere /var/log/messages? to assist with a possible bug report? dd if=/dev/mmcblk1 ds=512 | bzip2 > /home/user/MyDocs/mmcBackup.bz2 |
