Cannot create symlink

This is a bit newbie question, but I got a problem with terminal. When I try to copy files from /usr/share (picture files to edit them) I get error: Cannot create a symlink.

Why phone wants to create links when copying files? Is it possible to force this action somehow?

Re: Cannot create symlink

What command line are you using for the copy?

Just in case, it's not possible to create symlinks on the MyDocs partition, since it's a FAT partition, where thos are not supported.

Re: Cannot create symlink

Well, I edit the pictures with photoshop straight from MyDocs so... how should I make this work?

Hmmm, I may be missing something, but in your original post you said that you try to copy the files with the terminal right?

And this is the step that is causing you the "Cannot create symlink" error?

If yes, I would be interested to see what command you try to use to make the copy...

Re: Cannot create symlink

you have to install "rootsh" to get access to these folders.... ^^

Re: Cannot create symlink

I tried to copy files to MyDocs as you assumed (cp -r /usr/share/omweather /home/user/MyDocs). Is there some parameters missing? Now the problem is how I get those files from /usr/share to photoshop, so I can edit them. Or is it even possible...

Re: Cannot create symlink

The files should have been transfered by this command. Only the symlinks weren't created, if you want to follow symlinks you have to use another additional parameter.

Re: Cannot create symlink

Nope. Is there something else wrong? As I understand the error, the problem is with symlink. More accurately it says:

cp: cannot create symlink '/home/user/MyDocs/omweather': operation not permitted

The files aren't in MyDocs after that.

again:
you have to be root for accessing this folder.

install "rootsh".
then in xterm make "sudo gainroot" and then enter your cp command.
